'Do it yourself' Systems Analysis:

If you feel you are working for your software instead of it working for you, do these things to find a replacement:

1. Write descriptions of what works and doesn't work in your day-to-day business process. Write these as statements that define the 'requirements' that a new/improved system will satisfy, ie. "the system must . . . (describe what works/give your best description of the fix for what doesn't work.")

2. Get online and compare the feature lists of commercial software applications in your industry against the above 'requirements.'

3. Ask for or download trail software for the 3 best options and use them, testing against the 'requirements' list. Rate or Score the competitors.

4. Invest in the software that best meets your requirements. If none of the evaluated software measures up, perform a broader search, starting again at item #2, or present your requirements to custom software developers for development cost estimates.
